Mila Turajlić

Mila Turajlić (° 1979, Belgrade) is a filmmaker and archive ‘artivist’ whose works include Cinema Komunisto (2010), The Other Side of Everything (2017), and the diptych Non-Aligned & Ciné-Guerrillas: Scenes from the Labudović Reels (2022). In 2018 Turajlić was commissioned by MoMA (New York) to create video installations for its landmark exhibition on modernist Yugoslav architecture. She is the founder of the Non-Aligned Newsreels research project, an artistic exploration of the ‘orphaned’ status of film archives produced by Yugoslavia as a gesture of ciné-solidarity with the non-aligned world. Performative and video iterations of the project were curated for IDFA on Stage at the IDFA Festival (Amsterdam), as well as for several international exhibitions and biennials (Berlin 2022, Belgrade 2022, Sharjah 2025). In 2020 Turajlić was invited to join the AMPAS (Oscars) Documentary Branch, and two years later she was named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French government.
