Final act and other celebrations
We close this magical edition with a comeback to movement, body and its relationship with the gaze - in the setting of a variety theatre, a performative protest on roller skates, the final act of Free School. And the doors wide open to two vibrant parties!
In the sumptuous Théâtre Royal des Galeries, a final act premiering tonight, recalls a time when artists of colour had to don exotic costumes to get a place on stage: EXÓTICA. With a spectacular set design, Amanda Piña takes us on a choreographic quest dedicated to the decolonisation of art. In dialogue with their spiritual ancestors, the dancers create a sensual invocation, an erotic celebration, an exuberant ritual... in which they evoke artists that were forgotten and invisibilised by the European canon.
An exhibition of objects, a collection of Indian protest songs, a performance on roller skates: Amol K Patil joins forces with a Brussels feminist skater collective to denounce precarious working conditions. This Saturday 03.06 from 3 pm, they'll be reclaiming the public space with Black Masks on Roller Skates - a travelling performance around the Ursulines skatepark.
This closing weekend is all about free, open-air activities. On Friday 02.06, we invite you to a reading and discussion with the artist Azade Shamiri to mark the launch of the special issue 'Stage So Near So Far' of the art magazine Pages. Supported by the festival, it introduces you to eight female authors in the Iranian scene. On Saturday 03.06 at 6pm, all the teachers of the Free School will moderate an open discussion to review together the experiences of knowledge transmission and integration practices during the polyphonic language courses.
Between now and Saturday, you can still catch shows by Victoria Lomasko, Ça marche, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker and Kepler-452.
After 24 days of theatre, dance, performance, exhibitions, lectures, workshops, discoveries, sharpened curiosity, shared sensibilities, 360-degree art... and, of course, wild parties every weekend, get into the festival spirit with us at our final party at Les Brigittines and our legendary closing party at the Théâtre National! A word of advice: come early, admission is free.
